Before you start
Choose a supported guest image. Have an SSH key, initialization requirements and a plan for application data ready.
Step-by-step workflow
- Prepare the guest
Select an available Linux image and resource configuration. Supply your SSH key and cloud-init input where the offer supports them.
- Establish access
Find the assigned connection details in the service view. Connect with the image-specific user and your SSH key; use the browser console to inspect the guest when needed.
- Install the application
Configure packages, service processes and allowed ports inside the guest. Keep secrets separate from reusable setup files.
- Prepare for the next change
Maintain guest updates and an independent backup. If snapshots are supported, understand application consistency and the data a restore would replace.
Images and initial configuration
Select an image offered by the chosen configuration. Supported deployments accept SSH keys and cloud-init input to prepare the guest. Review image-specific requirements before adding initialization commands.
Access
Use the assigned connection details and your configured SSH key. Browser console access, when available, is useful for inspecting guest startup or connectivity problems. A platform login is not a substitute for guest credentials.
Snapshots
Supported VM services expose on-demand snapshot and restore operations. Inspect available actions in the service view. A snapshot does not replace independent backups or a tested recovery procedure.
Guest maintenance
Your team manages the operating system, packages, application and data. Validate sizing and performance with your workload. Published resources do not imply dedicated physical cores, a specific storage topology or an availability guarantee unless the offer states it.
Check your result
The guest starts, your intended access method works and the application answers a representative request. Record the update and recovery procedure.
If something does not work
For SSH issues, check the image-specific username, selected key, assigned address and firewall. Use the available browser console to inspect boot or guest network configuration.
- SSH reports permission denied
- Confirm the guest username and selected public key. The platform account password is not the guest credential.
- A restore point is needed
- Review snapshot availability for this service. Test a separate backup and recovery procedure for application data.
